We are excited to announce another Sammy Award honoree and special guest, California State Assemblymember for District 50 and former Mayor of Santa Monica, the Honorable Richard Bloom !

Richard Bloom has represented Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Topanga, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, and West Hollywood in the California State Assembly since 2012, where he has championed environmental causes, housing affordability, LGBTQ+ rights, and animal welfare. Prior to representing the 50th District in the Assembly, he served our community as a Santa Monica City Councilmember for 13 years, including two terms as Vice Mayor and three as Mayor.

The Sammy Awards is the Santa Monica Democratic Club’s annual fundraiser where we will honor and hear from Democratic leaders committed to our Santa Monica Values. We expect a big turnout at this year’s event as our members gear up for the midterm elections!

Our goal is to raise $20,000 to fund election mailers and GOTV efforts. Election mailers provide our club recommendations to Santa Monica voters for ballot measures and candidates. This year, we’re focusing our GOTV activities on critical, swing district congressional races supporting Christy Smith in the San Fernando Valley and Jay Chen in Orange County, among others.

Food and beverages will be available at the event. Non-members can become members for the remainder of 2022 through the purchase of a Sammy Awards ticket, allowing participation in critical upcoming club endorsement votes on candidates and ballot measures.
